Nose job (rhinoplasty) is a nose plastic surgery which is done to remove anything that causes any kind of discomfort such as: nasal hump, reshaping nostrils, changing nose tip, its size, an angle between a nose and an upper lip, different nose deformities, correction of deviated septum to ease up breathing.

Surgery s done under general anaesthesia and lasts about two-three hours. The surgery is performed either using a closed procedure, where incisions are hidden inside the nose, or an open procedure, where an incision is made across the columella, the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils. Through these incisions, the skin that covers the nasal bones and cartilages is raised, allowing access to reshape the structure of the nose. During the surgery the deformity of cartilage nose tip or cartilage-bone back of the nose is corrected, as well as nose shape distortion. Finishing the surgery the stitches are applied as well as a special nose case and bandage which maintains the desired nose shape until the bone grows. The results are visible immediately after the surgery after the swelling goes away and a patient is able to take off the nose case. The final post surgical result is seen only after the healing is done (from one to one and a half year).

Post surgery:

  • Post surgery tampons are used as well as a firm case is applied; therefore a patient needs to breath through their mouth (the tampons are taken out on the first or the second day after the surgery, the case goes away after seven to ten days).
  • Sutures are not taken out from the nose, they are dissolvable.
  • In case of external nose surgery the sutures are taken out after seven post surgical days, there is a tiny few millimetre length scar.
  • Typically healing takes up to few weeks.
  • There are secretions from nose, there is swelling under the eyes and cheeks for three-five days after the surgery.
  • Bruises under the eyes disappear in ten-twelve days.
  • A patient should avoid any traumas to the nose for three-four months; however a patient can be physically active in two-three weeks after the surgery.
